Alopecia

“Hi my name is Laney and I wear blue to raise awareness for alopecia. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. Since receiving the diagnosis of alopecia areata in 2006, my hair loss has come and gone in patches throughout the years. Recently, I experienced my largest period of hair loss and found my world suddenly being turned upside down. I had always told myself that it was just hair, however this time around I felt that my identity was being taken away from me. I found myself having a hard time looking others in the eye as I was ashamed of my rapidly changing appearance. Alopecia can take so much away from you, but of all the things it can take, it cannot take away your personality, your heart, your family and all the other amazing things that make you who you are. Although alopecia has caused me so much pain it has also helped me to realize and foster the traits that make me a beautiful person both inside and out. I am proud to wear something that both raises awareness and unites so many amazing individuals. I have found great joy in sharing my story with others and helping wherever I can!” @alopecia.laney
