“Hi! My name is Jillian Bettencourt, and I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I was in 3rd grade when I first developed a fear of getting sick. By the time I graduated 8th grade, my symptoms were so severe I couldn’t return to school in the fall. It was during that summer that my OCD took over. I was rapidly losing weight and had multiple panic attacks a day. When fall of my freshman year began I started attending a partial hospitalization program (a school-day full of therapy). This treatment location was hours away from my house, so my mom and I slept in a hotel every weekday for 8 weeks. After that I was admitted to a residential treatment center across the country. After 2 1/2 months I was discharged. I was finally managing my OCD and returned back home to start high school. After I successfully finished my first year of high school my roommate from residential and I started our recovery account @sarahandjillian. Since then we’ve been educating others about OCD. I’m so proud to wear this teal necklace to raise awareness about OCD and educate others about this life altering yet (with hard work) manageable condition!” @sarahandjillian
